2014 Equality Award

Ron Johnson

Ron is a Partner in the law firm of Johnson, Peddrick & McDonald, PLLC, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has been a community leader for decades involved as an HRC Estate Planning consultant for North Carolina, founding Triad Health Project and Guilford Green Foundation in Greensboro, as well as leading civic affairs on numerous community boards, art organizations and women's and family aid agencies. Ron served as President and Director of THP, raising more money through his work on its annual Winter Walk for Aids than any individual, serving as chair of Winter Walk in 2007 and then co-chair in 2011. He was a Founder of Guilford Green Foundation, the Triad’s LGBT organization, serving on its Board and its Advisory Committee as well as providing legal counsel. He has won numerous awards including the THP Founder’s Award, the Mrs. Leon’s Award, the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, the Greensboro Bar Association award for “Outstanding Pro-Bono Service” and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro “Thornton Brooks Award” for outstanding service. Ron and his life partner, Bill Roane, have been HRC Federal Club Members for over 20 years. HRC North Carolina is proud to award Ron Johnson with the Equality Award for 2014.

Salisbury Pride

Since its inception in 2011, Salisbury Pride has made great strides in promoting visibility, increasing public support, and increasing education of the LGBTQ community. Located in Rowan County, Salisbury, NC, is a small rural community of 33,663. It is an hour north of Charlotte and in the buckle of the “Bible Belt”. Yet, through the efforts of Salisbury Pride, it is one of most tolerant and inclusive communities in the Piedmont. The accomplishments of this small, grass roots organization are extending beyond the boundaries of Salisbury. The Dinner Fellowship
HRC North Carolina is committed to the involvement of a broadly representative population of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people and our straight allies in North Carolina. The 2014 HRC North Carolina Gala Dinner Committee invites those with limited income who would not otherwise be able to attend the dinner without financial assistance to apply for a Fellowship to attend the Gala. 
Criteria for Dinner Fellowship:
  • Completed Gala Fellowship Application
  • Commitment to the HRC mission to build an America where LGBT families and individuals can be open, honest and safe at work, at home and in the community.
  • Current resident of North Carolina.
  • Willingness to volunteer for local HRC organizing and further outreach efforts.
  • Demonstration of limited income status.
Please complete this application as soon as possible for consideration. Fellowships will be granted on an on-going basis until exceeding the designated allotment or until January 1st, 2014, whichever is soonest
